Summary
Eddie"s new apartment is small. The walls are too bright, the furniture too new. He misses his couch. He made up the one bedroom with Chris’s stuff, so Eddie’s own bed is the new couch he mechanically turns into his bed every night. He’s got a bedroom with no walls and in the middle of the night, as he stares up at the stark white ceiling, he considers painting it black so he doesn’t notice if his eyes are open. It feels oddly like staring up at the lid of his coffin.

Eddie moves to Texas and pretends he"s fine until he can"t anymore. Inevitably, Buck follows.

Summary
Buck wasn"t really thinking when he applied to be on the reality dating show Love Island, beyond the fact that he was tired of being alone.
Now, he"s out of the villa, trying to find some stable ground beneath his feet, but things keep getting in the way. His relationship with Taylor falls apart, he doesn"t know what he wants to do with his newfound fame, and then, his tires are slashed by what looks like a stalker.
The answer to the last problem, at least as far as Bobby is concerned, is Eddie Diaz — a bodyguard.

“So what’s your real name, then?” Eddie asks, sipping on his own drink—a whiskey he’s swirling around in the glass constantly.
“Evan,” Buck says coyly, quickly adding, “But nobody really calls me that.”
“Evan,” Eddie echoes, the sound dripping off his tongue like thick honey. “I like it.”
It almost makes Buck regret to ever abandon it in the first place, driving a shiver down his spine. Almost.
“And what’s Eddie short for? Eduardo?” he quickly shifts the conversation, stirring his drink and popping another peanut into his mouth. Eddie shakes his head and chuckles.
“Edmundo,” he corrects him, then winks at Buck with a low, “But nobody really calls me that.”or the one where Buck and Eddie have a one-night-stand two days before Eddie starts at the 118.

The warmth of Buck’s touch should have been comforting, but instead, it made the knot in Eddie’s chest tighten. He pulled away.

Summary
All Eddie wants to do is hold Buck and make him feel safe and cared for. But when he exhales softly against Buck’s neck, and feels Buck’s body shudder slightly with a tiny hitch in his breath, he can’t help it when he presses a soft kiss to Buck’s skin, just below his ear. His lips linger there, as if trying to hold onto something fragile.
“It’s going to be okay,” Eddie whispers, the words barely audible as they’re mumbled against his skin. “I’m here. It’s going to be okay.”
Buck doesn’t respond, but Eddie feels the slight tension in his body loosen, just a little. He kisses Buck’s neck again, this time more softly.
Every time his lips touch Buck’s skin, he feels Buck shudder slightly, and each little tremor pulls at something in Eddie’s chest. He wants to give Buck everything—comfort, strength, whatever Buck needs to feel whole again. But Eddie knows this runs deeper than words or gestures. Buck is carrying so much, his pain tucked away in the silence, in the exhaustion that radiates from him, in the stillness of his body as though he’s afraid to break apart.
OR
Eddie takes care of Buck after a difficult shift.

There are a few spam e-mails at the top, and he feels a familiar spike of annoyance at the sight - he never signed up to receive these stupid advertisement emails, why does he have to be the one to go through and unsubscribe to all of them? It’s stupid, that’s all he’s saying - as well as a few texts from the 118-group chat, somebody trying to get a day off, but at the bottom, there’s a text that came in 23 minutes ago that makes his stomach fall to his ass and static buzz in his ears.

He knows his son is hardly one to take the time to spell everything out when he could use simple acronyms, but this isn’t that. These are misspellings, and the lack of emojis - from the kid who once spoke to him solely in the little suckers while he was on shift one day - has him immediately pulling up his son’s contact information and hitting dial, chewing on his inner cheek as he waits for the call to connect.
Or: As Eddie is debating his move to Texas, a few texts from his son in the middle of the day set him on a course to getting everything he"s been wanting.
