Summary
"Sitting on the floor in his high school art building’s hallway, Jayce stared blankly at his laptop. He was currently deluding himself into believing homework was a feasible task while waiting to be called into his musical (yeah, you heard the narration right, musical) audition.
In truth, Jayce was one solidly-brainstormed excuse away from packing up his supplies, pulling out his keys, and driving home.
His friends had laughed when he’d told them. “A musical?” Vi had almost choked on her smoothie after their most recent sparring session. “What, Talis, you’re about to start throwing jazz hands instead of upper cuts?” Caitlyn had just slung an arm around her girlfriend’s shoulders, smirking and remarking that Jayce looked like he’d be great in a kick-line.
Groaning and shutting his laptop, Jayce turned up the volume of his headphones and picked up the sheet music he’d printed, blasting the accompaniment for “Lay All Your Love On Me.” If the voices in his head wouldn’t shut up, he might as well polish his cut of the song."

"If you’d asked the Man of Progress just a couple of years ago, he’d have thought it impossible. But many rounds of treatment, one lung transplant, and a spinal surgery later, Viktor was a new man. A healthy man. As of seven months ago, his body was toxin-free and his back brace unnecessary. For the first time since his academy days, his trusty cane was the only support he needed.
However, none of that changed the fact that Jayce had spent years watching his partner’s health deteriorate. He’d washed blood out of countless shirts, towels, and handkerchiefs. He’d sat in countless stale rooms waiting alone, speaking with doctors, and staring at the seemingly lifeless body of the man he loved. He’d held Viktor’s head as he gagged up nothing but stomach acid, clutched his trembling, bone-thin form to his chest until the pain ebbed.
So it was only natural that since this morning, when Jayce had woken up to an empty bed and sneezes echoing from the kitchen, he’d been worried."

When Ghost woke up at 2:13 in the morning, it was to an empty bed. He groaned, letting his head fall back onto the pillow.
Just under 72 hours had passed since an attempted infiltration of one of Makarov’s ally cartels had gone south. Following the fight, the 141 relocated to a safe house in Zlotoryja. Gaz had been rushed to make four fake identities in Poland, Price was being pissy due to the setback, and Soap was on bed rest with a sprained ankle.
Or, at least, he was supposed to be.-
Soap is injured and overworking himself. Ghost gets him to slow down.

She turns back to Nancy, who has watched the entire scene play out with an unidentifiable emotion present in the way she holds herself. Not that Robin pays tons of attention to Nancy Wheeler’s body language, because that would be obsessive and a little bit creepy.
They don’t speak for a minute, unsure of what to do now that it’s just them. Robin doubts the kids would let them take part in Monopoly, and she didn’t totally love the idea of smoking weed around Nancy, for fear of what might escape her blabbermouth.
What she isn’t expecting is for Nancy to walk around the couch until they’re four feet closer, fingers fidgeting in their clasped position, and declare, “I hate these parties.”-
At the Harrington's annual New Year's Eve party, Robin Buckley allows herself to hope that maybe, just maybe, she has a shot with Nancy Wheeler.

“Mr. Talis, bored already?” Viktor asked, his tone dry but laced with the faintest trace of amusement.
Jayce grabbed a chair from the back with an ear-splitting scrape of metal on tile, the sound grating against Viktor’s nerves. Viktor visibly flinched, cringing at the noise. The class burst into laughter at the reaction, while Jayce offered a sheepish grin, clearly unapologetic. He flopped into the chair, sprawling in a lazy posture that made it seem like he belonged here.
“Had a free period,” Jayce said with a shrug, his voice light and breezy. He propped his head on his hand, his grin widening. “And I’m always fascinated by science.”--
