Summary
He loves her, still, after all this grief, loves so hard he feels like a dog at the back door, whining to be let in, Desperate boy, naïve and longing. He grits his teeth and stares up at his ceiling. He used to wonder, if she stared up too, the same pain that lingered in his lungs, like low level static in hers too. God, he knows better now.
Or in which, after the divorce is finalised, Carlton really struggles, but Shawn is there to help him through it.

Summary
“Shawn,” he calls out, his voice strangled by a sudden and violent sob, as though the weight of the day has finally come crashing down on him. Shawn walks out of the kitchen, wooden spoon in hand. He’s in a stupid chef apron that Carlton had bought him for Christmas last year. It’s tied tightly around his waist, and he looks endearingly ridiculous. Shawn’s smile falls, as he see’s Carlton stood in the hallway, bag and jacket on the floor, hair dishevelled and eyes red.
“Sweetheart,” He rushes forward, taking the older man’s hands in his. “What’s wrong?” he asks gently, his eyes filled with a concern that just makes Carlton want to cry more.
Or in which Carlton Lassiter has a meltdown, and Shawn is there to look after him.

Summary
Lassiter hates hospitals. The constant beeping of machines and bright fluorescent lights that bore into his sensitive eyes. He can feel every vein twitching in his head. God, he never wanted to be sat here again, waiting. But he is, waiting, and something tells him, God doesn’t give a single fuck about it.
Or in which Shawn is shot while working a case, and Lassiter has to suffer the consequences.

When Shawn comes out as trans in the tenth grade, the first person he tells is Gus. They’re walking home from school, when Shawn opens his mouth to ask about the math homework, and the words, “Gus, I’m transgender, I’m a boy,” come tumbling out, all fast and tumultuous. Gus looks at him for a second, really looks, at him. And then he nods.
Or in which Shawn struggles with coming to terms with his queer identity and his fear of God.

“For one, spelling is pointless and boring, and you are strange for having such a passion for it and two, every good idea starts out as a note written on the back of your hand Gus,” Shawn says matter-a-fact-ly, as if this is all very common knowledge.
Gus clicks his tongue in annoyance. “Your hatred of spelling has ruined my whole life Shawn, starting with that spelling bee I nearly won. I. Nearly. Won. It. Shawn,” he emphasises each word.
Shawn just rolls his eyes.
