Summary
This time, it’s James who knocks on his door and stands there, visibly anxious about his appearance. Fingers fidgeting with the seam of his jumper. Regulus immediately notices a flush creeping up on his cheeks right to the tip of his ears. It’s so endearing that Regulus’ knees go weak.
“Can I sleep here tonight?” James asks, his tone a mixture between insecurity and bold fucking teasing.
“Here?”
James chuckles.
“Here.”

Summary
Slowly, his hands find their way to James’ hair, combing through it with a silent sigh. It’s soft, so disgustingly soft and it makes his heart ache so much. Thighs only parting further for James to clean him up properly. He doesn’t waste an opportunity to kiss them. It doesn’t hold anything sexual- not since Regulus is absolutely done for- but also because it’s too sweet and reassuring and it’s James’ love language.
Yeah, Regulus feels his heart getting heavy and throb with too much emotion. Too many feelings only by looking at him.
“Mm.” James murmurs against his thigh. “I love you so goddamn much.”
Regulus lets his head fall back and gets out a loud huff before it fades into a chuckle,
“You know I do too, you brute.”

“Aww, seriously? I already thought I could hook you up with one of them.” Regulus fake-pouts at him now. “They’re all a delight, I swear. No one better around here to get down and dirty with some gal of the Black family tree.”
The thing is, James knows he’s not serious. He knows he should shut up and walk away from this conversation and yet decides to dig his own grave even deeper. Pours his heart into it like it belongs right there, with Regulus.
“Ah,” James murmurs, still smiling. “Might be looking for some more dick action tonight.”
Regulus’ eyes shoot up to meet his own, his glance a mix of shock and utter amusement.

How do you think he manages to stay on that stupid branch until it breaks each time?
Of course, it doesn't really work with Sirius, because his brother has always been able to see right through him.

“Everyone did,” he shook his head. “It was always a joke.”
