Kaveh’s newest acquaintance, an Amurta student by the name of Tighnari, once witnessed a relatively tame argument over the precise angle of one line in an ancient Enkanomiyan rune. After Al-Haitham left with a roll of his eyes and curt wave of his hand, Tighnari took a long look at Kaveh’s narrowed eyes, slight breathlessness, and flushed cheeks and said, Get well soon.
There is no getting well. There is only this: grappling in the sand like little boys, laughing and pretending to not be laughing.

“I don’t wanna talk,” he says plainly, turning the doorknob before stepping inside. But just as he’s about to shut the door, Niibashi holds it open, not letting him.
Something shifts in Shirahama’s expression. “Let go.”
“No,” Niibashi says firmly. “I’m not leaving until we talk, so let’s talk.”
“I already said I don’t wanna talk to you. Go home.”
“No.” Niibashi grips the edge of the door tighter, irritated now. “I didn’t come all the way here just for you to tell me to go home.”
Shirahama glowers at him. “Why are you getting mad at me? I’m not the one who wants to break up.”
Niibashi tenses at what Shirahama just said. “I don’t want to break up with you.”

Summary
Seb is a moody painting major whose only interest, besides art and hanging out with his favorite lesbian Leah, is finding new and interesting ways to escape sobriety. When he's not ripping his peers apart in art critiques or using illicit drugs in the back rooms of college parties, he usually finds himself facing down an ugly and boring reality, where he struggles to find the version of himself that's left over after the veneer of "artist" is stripped away.
Sam is a cheerful photography major whose chatty demeanor has earned him many friends, through the years, and even more people who try to take advantage of his kindness. He's struggled hard to carve a space for himself at a prestigious art college, and oftentimes, despite his popularity, feels like an outsider- someone who conned their way into a life that they're not entitled to. Imposter syndrome and never feeling quite good enough has been hard on Sam, and he feels like his bubbly mask of optimism is starting to slip.
