하지만 그는 돌아왔죠. 멀쩡히 살아 숨 쉬고, 조금 피곤한 얼굴로 미소짓는 스캐맨더의 손을 꽉 붙잡고. 누구보다 행복하게 웃으며.

만약 마이클에게 좀 더 제대로 된 상담사와, 친구 몇이 있었다면 적절한 조언을 받아 황소고집을 꺾는 법을 배우고, 가족들과 나름대로 원활한 소통을 할 수 있었을 것이다. 하지만 마이클은 인복이 더럽게도 없는 남자였고, 분당 값을 매기는 속물 상담사와, 함께하는 시간 중 8할은 위법을 저지르고 나머지 2할은 술과 약에 찌들어 있는 정신 나간 절친 에게 적절한 조언을 받기는 무리였다.

Summary
Ellie Barron had a plan: to live a simple life when she moved to Jasper with her grandmother, go through high school with no trouble, and maybe make some friends along the way. Even with a prosthetic leg, that shouldn't be too hard. It'd be better than the grim, lonely way she's lived for the past four years, at least.
What she didn't plan on, though, was accidently discovering an alien race living among her in the throes of a millennia-long war.
Turns out life had other plans that barely involve "simple." Especially when most of her new friends are giant transforming robots. And their leader happens to be her guardian.

But no one drove a vehicle of that particular color here. And there was no reason for a stranger to come to this town that only had a single road connecting it to the outside world. Any trucker would have come across dozens of towns to rest in before ending up here.
