“It is,” Nursey interrupts gently.
Dex takes care of him in so many ways that Nursey can’t even name them all. Not only with coffee and cleaning and handy work, he just cares. He wants to know how Nursey is, checks in on him; there’s a touch of love behind it all that makes Nursey delirious and hopeful if he thinks about it for too long.
Dex blinks a few times before his eyebrows pull together in thought. “What if I like taking care of you?”

And he thinks Nursey might kiss him. Or pull him closer. Or, really, anything other than say what slips out of Nursey’s mouth.
“Marry me already.”
Dex freezes. “Um. What.”
The dazed look stays on Nursey’s face for a couple seconds before his eyes widen and his face drops like he doesn't know where that came from.
“Wait, no, I don't mean like—! I didn't mean to say that out loud. Not that I was thinking it, obvs. It just—” he cuts himself off as he sees the look on Dex's face and groans. “Don’t.”
Dex slaps a hand to his own mouth but it isn't enough to stop the laugh that escapes him.
Nursey whines, covering his face. “Oh my god.”

He stops swinging, looking down at the wet grass. “Hey, baby?”
The endearment still has Dex feeling a low rush in his chest. “Yeah?”
He turns to Nursey to find he's already looking at Dex. Eyes dazed but gleaming, smile crooked and tired but sure.
Dex thinks back to all the times in his life he woke up knowing it was going to be a good day. He was so sure then that those mornings were the residue of dreams he just couldn't remember. He's still not sure if he was right, but if he was, then those dreams must be made of the same stuff he feels when Nursey looks at him like that.
Nursey shifts his palm a little. It makes the way their hands fit feel weird until he notices the way Nursey's thumb is now brushing the knuckle of Dex's ring finger back and forth.
Dex feels the question in the air before he hears it.
“Marry me someday?”
