Summary
Astarion knows this to be true: there is something wrong deep inside Tavarre. He knows it from their calm approach to meting out violence in cold blood. He knows it from their utter lack of response to the horrors of the tadpole or to mortal peril. More than either of those, he knows it from this look they have, like nothing anyone else could say could possibly ever interest them.
Astarion, unlike their leader, revels in his bloodlust. After so long under another's control, wielding the knife's edge of life and death over another is close to godly. The way in which Tavarre kills without feeling is so fucking dull.
All of this aside, he knows that he needs them on his side. They're the most powerful person in any room. They're able to have the jump on any situation. Their gaze is sharp and calculating. He's never once seen them frightened.
Nothing would truly make him safe from his old master, but having Tavarre on his side would at least be a start.

Summary
Astarion's undead existence as the spawn of the vampire lord Cazador is a miserable thing. On a dangerously cold winter's night, he picks out a new mark named Tav, who's sweet and lovely. He lets himself pretend that he could be with her. That he could sweep her off her feet and kiss her gently. He knows he's lying to himself. She only has a few days left to live, though. What's the harm in letting himself have this one thing?
The last time he sees her is the night of her death at Cazador's hands.

As he comes closer, his eyes catch on a figure with warm brown skin and hair so white it's almost glowing in the sun. She's resting now, with eyes closed. This -- well, it could be anyone. There was only one person in the world with Tav's eyes: ice-blue, cold, and so piercing that they can look into one's very soul.
Her eyes open.
They catch with his, and there's nothing else -- not Lae'zel or Shadowheart, not the tieflings, not the druids, not the threat of the tadpole. He thinks, helplessly, that even like this, with her hair matted and her clothes worn-through, she is stunning. Irreplaceable.
Tav is alive. Tav is here. Tav is also infected.
Ah. Fuck.

Summary
"I'm the Doctor," said the man (being? time-traveler?) in front of her, who was currently posing dramatically against a railing.
Ruby pursed her lips, then scuffed one of her feet against the floor, purposefully making him wait. He stared back at her, offering no further information. When she raised an eyebrow, he only smiled back at her. Cheeky. She liked him.
There were many questions she had for him -- primarily regarding where they were both standing, which she was pretty confident was his means of time travel -- but they could wait. Instead, for now, she asked, "Did you set up that dramatic pose in advance?"

It is the Garden of Eden, just after Adam and Eve have been cast out for their newfound knowledge of good and evil. The demon Crawly makes the mistake of approaching an angel afterwards. That is, rather, he makes the mistake of approaching the wrong angel. He tries not the eastern gate, but instead the northern one.
When Crawly approaches, the guardian of the northern gate strikes him down, uncaring, without even saying a word.

"No, uh, I'm not here to buy books. Ah -- can't stand buying books, actually, they're too heavy. I like to... look at books!" Crowley nodded, too fast and eagerly to seem normal. "Yup, that's my favorite thing to do. Just looking at them."
"Oh." Aziraphale's eyes softened, though there was still a bit of wariness left in his expression. "You're absolutely sure about that, then? That you are not here to purchase books."
"Uh-huh," Crowley said. Aziraphale was far too close to him -- Crowley could take in the curve of his face, his artful curls of hair. Beautiful, his brain reported, which was not helpful! He felt his face heat up and tried desperately to wish it away.
"Wonderful, then!" At Crowley's affirmation, Aziraphale beamed. It was fully earnest, and the force of it almost swept Crowley off his feet. He couldn't recall the last time someone had smiled at him like that.
