“I’m not allowed to smile anymore?” he cheekily replied, obviously failing to keep the upturned edges of his smirk off of his face.
Mina giggled again, stepping closer to him while she reached out for his face. He had outgrown most of his boyish features, jaw defined and not too awkward now that the baby fat had dropped off. He settled into his broad shoulders and height, not too scrawny and gangly with too long arms and legs, but now much more proportionate. His build reflected the strong swimmer he was, flexible and powerful, moving with purpose and precision. Every move he made was intentional.
“We’ve really grown up, haven’t we?” she whispered, her lips ghosted over his. “Not the same stupid kids from before.”
His arms finally wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer into their intimate little bubble and refusing to let her out of his grasp again.
“Not kids anymore, but still plenty stupid,” he teased. “At least for you.”

“Why doesn’t anything on your menu have normal fucking names?” He’d ask, full scowl and a raised brow.
“Um, because I’m creative as hell, duh,” She quipped right back, not bothered by the harsh tone, but a little thrown off. Who says that the first time they go somewhere? “What you looking for a boring black coffee, or somthin’?” She asked with a little sass of her own.
He looked the type, all tall and mysterious and probably too good for anything fancy. She fought back a roll of her eyes while she waited.
“I like it sweet, not too sweet. Hot. Latte or Macchiato.” The reply was curt, as if he was trying to get it all out as quickly as possible.
“Okay then, that’s still not much of an order …” She pursed her lips, head quirked to the side as she looked up at him. “I’m more than happy to make any recommendations, my most popular is-”
“Surprise me.” He cut off her spiel, pushing more than enough money across the counter.
