Cas’s head tilts to the side, and after a long pause, he says, “No, but it keeps me away from the only danger I have of getting too happy.”
“What, because Earth’s got peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Netflix?”
“No,” Cas sighs, “it has you.”

After defeating Chuck, Dean is stunned when Cas tells him he intends to go back to Heaven with Jack. He mopes about it until Sam forces him to talk to Cas. Turns out talking only makes it worse when Cas reveals that he left because made a deal with the Empty. Dean vows to get him out of it. What he hopes to get out of saving Cas is still a mystery to him even as he begins his dogged effort — but will all of Dean’s trying be enough once Cas is back?

Summary
Dean keeps both nephil and bouquet intact as he comes to a stop beside Cas. But just as Dean’s about to get a closer look at the woman he’s been smiling at, Cas turns that blinding grin on him. And goddamn it— he’s incapacitated. He’s a puddle of goo.
Dean grins back, helpless, when Cas’s eyes alight on the flowers.
“Dean,” he says, warm and fond and just like home, “Are those for me?”
“I told you I knew how to get someone flowers,” Dean says, carefully handing them over. Cas takes the bouquet gently in his hands, treating it like precious cargo, and ever the strategist, he takes the chance of their closeness to plant a sweet kiss on Dean’s lips. The puddle of goo that Dean once was now vaporizes into a besotted cloud. He kisses back, maybe slips him a little tongue when he catches, out of the corner of his eye, that the woman is watching.
“Well,” she says, as the two of them break apart, “You must have learned after we broke up.”
Dawn breaks through the envy-addled cloud.
“Holy shit— Cassie Robinson?”

At the end of their long journey, Dean Winchester is settled into a brand new life-- one he loves. Reminders of his past may just help him appreciate the present all the more.

Summary
Based on the movie Starter for Ten (2006). When Sam leaves for Stanford, Dean is left alone and adrift, with only their bad-tempered and absent father for company. One day, after months of no-contact, Sam invites him to visit campus on his reading week. Once Dean arrives, he's introduced to Sam's new world, and is both in awe and embittered to see the new life he's made for himself-- one that doesn't include Dean. He meets the girls Sam is interested in, campus activist Eileen and mean girl Ruby, as well as his friends and finally, his quizbowl captain, Castiel. Dean hates the pompous and arrogant Castiel at first sight and gets into a fistfight with him, ending with Sam furious and Dean fleeing. Later, Castiel calls Dean to apologize, and surprises Dean by being far more than one bad first impression made him seem.
One call turns into many, and a tentative friendship forms that could spiral into something more-- that is, if Dean can learn to hold on to a good thing once he's got it.

Soon, Napoleon was at the front of the queue, the last of the others trailing out. The giant hallowed space of the church surrounded just the two of them, and suddenly felt a lot smaller.
“Hello,” the Priest said, his smile much more hesitant than the one Napoleon saw him offer the usual crowd.
“Don’t sound too shocked to see me.”
This made the Priest laugh, and set something alight in Napoleon’s chest. Hellfire, perhaps.

Summary
He is human now, and can't stand the thought of complicating their lives, so Cas moves out to the country where he can be of use. He plants sunflowers, and thinks of the ones that he left behind. He can miss them, him. He is allowed that. In time though, Dean comes to his farm on his way home from a hunt. The sunflowers have bloomed in bright glowing bursts like fire in the fields.
