“Oh wait,” he calls after her, and she pauses and turns back to watch him extract something striped yellow and black from his briefcase, adorned with a white, iridescent bow. A bee. Specifically, the same type of bee toy her dog Newton loves, that Anthony had accidentally pilfered early last Christmas Eve, before their kiss, causing Newton to escape. “How is Newton?” he asks, holding the bee out to her, and she remembers it was Anthony who rescued her dog from animal control and brought him home. “I remembered he loved this toy.”
She physically cannot do it anymore, she cannot hold herself back, she cannot stop herself from wanting this man more than she has ever wanted anyone else in her life.
