The words are there (not good, but there); they’re practically choking him. Buck imagines a phantom ring of confessions tight around his throat like the out-of-control hand of the hapless guy on their last call. He can’t loosen it enough to speak. He can’t get the words out. Why can’t he get them out? Why is this so hard? Buck is progressive — he’s always been an ally! He thinks people being LGBTQ is great! So why can’t he tell everyone that he is, too?

Summary
Buck had this idea, at first, of taking things slow. Of making sure of his own feelings, then of making sure it was very obvious that this went well beyond a hookup for him. They have taken it relatively slow but the truth of all of those things became abundantly clear to Buck, and undoubtedly to Tommy too, within probably three days of ‘good morning’ texts and invitations to go hiking in the LA foothills.
(Or: Buck and Tommy on the morning after the single longest night and day.)
