Summary
James considers it a miracle when Reg steps forward, nearly crowding James against the wall. Reg extends a hand between them—an offer. A gesture of acceptance. A bridge built between them.
“James, you can call me Regulus,” the pressure between them dissolves, replaced with anticipation, something electric zapping the air around them. James wants to roll the name around on his tongue, taste it and feel the way it sits in his mouth. “You have until sunrise.”
James grins—Regulus meets him with a challenge.
He plans to take Regulus’ hand and run from the sunrise, carried on the hopes of a star-lit night spent with a stranger.

Summary
“I’m not going to lie or pretend otherwise,” James says turning his full attention to her. “I love him.”
She was not expecting that forwardness. Nor the sudden urge to punch him in the face. “Okay,” she crosses her arms, “I love him too.” Regulus makes a choking sound from his side of the room.
Lily and James ignore him until he moves towards them, his jaw set and his eyes narrowed at both of them as if he can’t quite believe they are having this conversation. “You have a kid.” He states, his voice sharp. “This shouldn’t even be a discussion.”
“Harry.” Lily amends, her mind dismissing everything else.
“Harry.” James breathes, his face changing to what it was when he first saw Harry.
They stand in silence afterwards. James is seemingly lost in thoughts about Harry while Lily tries to ease the emotions turning her stomach and Regulus holds his breath for whatever it is he thinks they are going to say next. She feels his defeat, seeping out of him like sharp needles. It's a bit silly since her and James both seem far from giving up. If anything, she thinks this might end in a fight.
And Lily would just like to point out she has never lost to James.
