"You’re early! Thank god." The stranger heaved a sigh of relief, wiping his hands on a flour-covered apron, that didn’t do too much to make them clean. "Beomgyu said you’d come to help, but I didn’t think you’d actually show up, because I mean… it’s Beomgyu we’re talking about, so... anyways, I’m Soobin and I’m desperate, so let’s skip formalities. Thank you for coming, seriously."
"Uh…" Yeonjun blinked, completely lost. "Help?"

You know, like you’re involved in something, but not all the way in. Like, say... knitting sweaters for strangers and then dropping out halfway?”
The guy set his needles down slowly, clearly not sure how to respond to whatever absurd detective drama Hueningkai had invented in his mind. “I’m just making these so I can text without freezing my hands off.”
“Right, right...” Hueningkai said, standing up and backing away, but not without a final suspicious glance. “I’ve got my eye on you, Alex.”
“My name is Eduardo.”

“I don’t want you getting sick,” Soobin protested weakly, but it was cut off as Yeonjun leaned in, his lips pressing against Soobin’s in a kiss so gentle it felt like a sigh. It wasn’t rushed or intense, just filled with quiet affection. Yeonjun moved with a care that made Soobin’s chest ache in the best way.
Soobin tried to push him away, his hands weakly pressing against Yeonjun’s chest. “Yeonjun,” he mumbled against the elder’s lips, though his voice lacked conviction.
A hand came up, cradling one side of Soobin’s face. “Stop worrying,” Yeonjun whispered, his nose brushing over Soobin’s cheek. “Let me take care of you.”

“You peaked in highschool, by the way,” Yeonjun says lovingly, blowing him a kiss. He’s by the window that looks out into the woods, curtains pinned away with butterfly claw-clips. The setting sun hangs between his fingers, drowsy and blood red, acrid smoke curling up from the tip. Yes, Soobin thinks. An old star, sipping dark matter, smoking a comet or two. Greying around the corona. And no one comes to visit.
“I didn’t know you’d be here,” Soobin lies, setting Yeonjun’s scarf over the spinny chair.
(Or, roadtrips, reconciliations, and the retrograde ripeness of a red heart learning regret.)
