“Huh,” Elena said while staring at a tree with empty branches.
Ever since Peter and she settled down in their cozy little cottage, they’ve been planting fruit, flowers, herbs, and anything they could get their hands on.
They were lucky enough that the property they bought already had citrus trees planted when they arrived, and Because December has arrived, so has citrus season.
That’s what Elena was out here to do. Peter asked them if they could pick the oranges, clementines, and tangerines that were ripe, just to make sure they had enough vitamin D to last them the winter.
But as Elena was staring at their trees, every one of them was barren. The only fruit that was left were bruised, or not quite ripe yet.
“Peter!” Elena called out, “our citruses are gone!”
