I’m so preoccupied by getting out that I barely notice the person on the other side of the door when I open it.
Which is how I ended up walking right into Nino, right when I was fresh off a crying session, with my head just barely clear enough to think.
The first thing I see is the side ponytail pinned into place by a panda hair clip and it takes everything in me to keep myself from flinching at the hairstyle so similar to Ai’s. The “Smiling Queen” of B-Komachi was the last person I wanted to see right now.

The book sits on my desk, white cover proudly boasting the words "LYRIC BOOK" written in chunky magic marker. I had set it down when I got home, placing it with a carefulness I didn't usually show. The book felt important for some reason, something like a treasure.
It felt like a thing that could the start of something important.

The woman stands out like a sore thumb - not because she's tall (she isn't) or because she's dressed particularly ostentatiously (she isn't). If anything, she's perfectly nondescript - plain features, clothes that are neither flashy nor dull, mousy brown hair hanging in a limp bob around her face. She's stood at the back of the crowd, motionless in contrast the heaving, writhing mass of bodies packed into the venue. She's staring up at Ai and yet, somehow, it feels as though she's looking through her rather than at her.
The world seems to slow to a crawl. Sound fades out until she can hear nothing but the dull pounding of blood in her ears.
Without meaning to, she lets out a soft noise - the sound of a girl who'd just seen a ghost.
