While the various men and women tried to teach him about the Maths, sciences, and other subjects, Bennett's mind alway—inevitably, wandered somewhere far away.
While they droned about addition and sight words, he thought of all the places he could be that weren't the stuffy rooms—based entirely off of pictures from travelogs he found in the library but couldn't yet read. From the peak of Elynas to the foggy Tsurumi Island, there was one place he thought about the most.
Does the Mondstadt Cathedral really have a wolf head on its relief? He wondered, knowing full well he'd most likely never get to confirm the question in person.
After all, these were nothing but the mild imaginative thoughts of a small child—nothing more, nothing less.

In the coming days, he finds himself worrying on his lip just like his mother did just a few days ago, his fingers tapping out a rhythm on the library table. Uraraka sits across from him, pouring over some book and doing something similar, but he thinks they're doing it for different reasons. Uraraka is worried about an upcoming test, and Izuku is worrying about the fact his limbs are heavy and he hasn't touched One for All in at least a week, the Sports Festival is soon, and every time he closes his eyes he swears a longer amount of time has passed on the clock than the last.
(Maybe, maybe, Hero school just wasn't meant for him. But Izuku's put way too much time and effort into this to quit now, not while he's ahead, even if ahead is more like desperately keeping up with the pack, his fingernails bleeding as they dig into the dirt and rocks. Sunk cost fallacy.)

She continues on, as if she simply doesn’t hear the discontent slowly making it’s way through the crowd.

This is stupid! Why is she being so weird about some random smell? And why does it make her want to- to- do something!? Why is her brain being so weird? And why is she thinking of Okarun of all people?
She knows this isn’t what he smells like, not that his smell should matter to her anyway. But for the short time they’ve gotten to know each other, she’s only smelled the neutral scent of paper and plain deodorant. The most noteworthy spark of something vaguely burning whenever he’d get mad or moody, but that for expected for betas, or any of the dynamics. Despite having the plainest scents, there was still something unique to each person, but Okarun was as plain even for a beta. Neutral. Muted. Nothing warranting such a reaction from her, not from someone’s scent that should have no real impression on her, or anyone, really.

...In front of him is—well, it’s got to be a hero. He’s got big, tall boots and dark pants, and then a belt like Izuku’s seen some heroes have. An orange X goes across his shirt. Tucked in spiky blond hair is a piece that kinda looks like sparks.
But it’s the bracers that give him away. Big and heavy-looking, one fit to each arm like a grenade—Kacchan taught him that word, and these remind him of Kacchan’s Quirk—there’s zero question that Izuku’s looking at a hero. But he’s never seen this one before, and Izuku knows lots of heroes.
...“You’re a hero!” he cries.
When Izuku gets lost at the mall, a familiar-looking hero comes to the rescue.
