Summary
Except for family funerals including his late wife’s, Eddie Diaz did not make a habit of attending mass. He found the ritual of Catholicism to be scripted and regimented. It was up and down and relatively uncomfortable for many reasons. Yet he found himself in the last pew of St. Agatha’s Church on a relatively quiet Sunday. He was not confident in his decision to attend his first non-funeral mass in over a decade but as he drove by the church earlier in the week he felt a call to attend–a call that he had silenced in his youth or maybe was silenced. He was not sure and he did not necessarily believe it mattered.

Summary
It had been a few years since Sophia Diaz found herself in the breezy warmth of Los Angeles. It was a departure from the overbearing humidity of El Paso. Her last time was marred by tragedy and joy combined; an odd juxtaposition that had come to define her family’s legacy in strange ways. As she bounces around the growing throes of people in her brother’s home, she recalls her last visit to this homestead. Her last time on South Bedford Road was her estranged sister’s-in-law funeral and repast which was quickly transitioned into her older brother’s shield and promotion ceremony. He had closed one chapter and opened another all in a matter of days and it left her head spinning.
Now, it was her nephew’s thirteenth birthday.

“Ah,” Tommy said with a dramatic facial expression, “I figured this would be coming.”
“And what’s that exactly?” Eddie pressed.
“The overprotective best friend speech. You know the speech where you tell you that if I break his heart, you’ll kick my ass,” Tommy said as he moved over to the armchair in the living room and gestured for Eddie to take a seat.

Summary
Eddie turned to leave as he made his steps towards the elevator, he could hear the apartment door click close and he felt the urge to cry. His eyes were welling up and he couldn’t place exactly what was making him feel like this. He rarely cried and now all he wanted to do was sit in the rain and cry and allow the raindrops to wash away the despair that was threatening to crush him.

Summary
Marisol broke up with me.
Buck was sitting at this kitchen counter reading an article on his phone and enjoying a protein shake when he saw the banner alert indicating a new text message from Eddie. Expecting to find a request to hang out, he found four little words that must have pained Eddie to type.
As any best friend would, he immediately downed his shake and hopped in the car to navigate the familiar streets of Los Angeles to Eddie’s house.

"Buck came to me concerned about his well-being," Bobby starts with a melancholic look, "we both thought that it would be best if he got away for a while to get the help he needs."
Eddie can feel his chest start to tighten like it usually does before he's sent into a panic attack. Or maybe this time he actually is having a heart attack. He doesn't know.
The only thing he does know is that Buck left. Buck left and he didn't even say goodbye.
