John makes plans to leave 221b to move in with his boring, ordinary girlfriend. Sherlock makes some deductions about just how Not Gay John really is, and seduces John to keep him around. He needs John's medical expertise for the Work.
Also, rent money.
John loves Sherlock. Sherlock loves the Work. Sherlock knows that John at least wants to fuck him. And Sherlock is perfectly willing to exploit John's attractions to him as a means to an end. Obviously.
Mycroft is not amused.

Summary
Mary surprises John in the shower a week before their wedding is planned to take place. The shower sex does not go the way he expects. Engagement broken off, John packs his bag and heads home to Bakers Street.
Sherlock, who had spent the same morning planning the stag do that night, is shocked at Mary's decision. John and Sherlock end up in an argument when Sherlock has decided to take on the 'case' of getting Mary to reconsider.
Still, after seeing how much sentimentality Sherlock’s plans were, John suggests they make the best of the night and head out to the pubs anyway.
