Summary
There are two ways in which one of the Nine, more accurately Eight as my brothers at the Citadel so foolishly refuse to acknowledge, may be passed on to future Inheritors. The first, dictated by the sole choice of the current Heir of any of the Nine, is to have been chosen to receive it. We Maesters of the Citadel know the practice well, to extract the spinal fluid of one of the Nine, the injection of which will turn any human into a Pure Titan. Once eaten, the Titan will be passed on to its new Heir, who will return to human form and thereafter be able to manifest the power of the Nine. This process is called Endowment, and those members of the Nine who Inherited their Titan this way are said to have done so, by Way of Endowment.
The second is more chancy, albeit no less common. Should the current Heir to one of the Nine die without being consumed, their Titan shall pass to the next child born to the bloodline which holds the Titan. Those members of the Nine who Inherited their Titan this way are said to have done so, by Way of Blood.

The Last War is over, but Khorvaire has found little peace. Perhaps it never will.
