Summary
I thought Uprising was........ not great. So not great, in fact, that I took a year of my life to rewrite the whole thing in a way that I like better, even if no one else does.
Contains: no child soldiers, a non-fridged role for Mako, gay content, and a plot written by someone who at least saw Pacific Rim (2013), which I'm convinced no one on the Uprising team actually bothered to do.
Title is apparently from a 21 Pilots song- I had no idea where the phrase came from before I decided to use it for this fic, but the more ya know I guess.

Senku’s arm falls away from Gen’s waist, but he doesn’t back away. “Right?” he says. He isn’t looking at the view.
Senku's been dropping hints. Gen's a sorry excuse for a mentalist for not picking up on them.

He considers his response, as well as this new piece of information.
He goes for the honest answer: “Die. Because you have a bit of peanut sauce on your lips from dinner, and I’m allergic to that shit. It’d cause quite the scandal if you murdered some poor, innocent high school student.”
Gen licks his lips. "Noted."
In which it's 2019 AD, and lately, strangers have been smiling at Senkuu as if he’s an old friend. Alternatively—three thousand and seven hundred years’ worth of memories in the span of eight months.

In the days before they had Chopper, Sanji doctored them.
Zoro remembers vividly, how barely before he had met the man those long fingers were digging in his flesh, his blood staining sleeve cuffs forgotten to be rolled up. Catgut wire going in, and out, and then a roll of bandages appearing in the corner of his vision. When he woke up they were on their way to getting Nami, and the person serving lunch had shaped the precise line of scar on Zoro’s chest with his own hands.
