    Summary

The ritual went like this: Days 0 - 6 following a break up, Ed was allowed to mope in a blanket fort or other cozy, bed-rotting receptacle of his choosing. He could eat junk food and watch sad movies and refuse to shower.

But, and this was imperative: he had to exit the blanket fort by Day 7. If he allowed himself to rot any longer than six days—he’d learned from hard experience—mourning would quickly morph into self-loathing and a full depressive episode that might last months.

So, on Day 7, he would exit the fort. Put on his sluttiest outfit. And find someone to fuck.

Blank slate. Getting over someone by getting under someone else. Tale as old as time.

    **

Edward Teach is an expert at breakups—he should be, he's gone through enough of them over the years. He has a whole ritual for getting over someone. But nothing could have prepared him for Stede Bonnet.

Just a lil s2e6 ditty about warmth and orgasms and steering into storms, and, well, i needed something to do with my pre-finale nerves.

“No, Ed, YOU’RE whim-prone. I planned for YEARS to get on this boat and leave my home, I searched for you for MONTHS to make this right. My whims, they’re about coats, and, and silly treasure hunts. Yours are about PEOPLE, Ed, about lives, yours are about my fucking heart! I was trying to, to spare your feelings, and maybe it’s time we both stopped doing that.”

    Summary

There’s a bit of concern when he walks in on Iggy basically like…up in Edward’s face, a piece of paper shoved under his nose. He’s a little more concerned when Iggy snarls out, “This is Blackbeard! Not some namby pamby in a silk dressing gown pining for his—”

“Heyyyyyy,” Lucius says awkwardly. Two sets of eyes turn to him, one furious, the other…scared? Is Edward scared of fucking Iggy? Lucius clears his throat, looking between the two of them. Iggy’s got one hand clenched in Edward’s robe near his throat and Edward looks…frozen. “So…this is a weird vibe.”

What if Lucius had walked in on the "I should have let the English kill you" scene?

It was like a bolt of lightning straight down Ed’s spine. Or a swath of fire right beneath his feet. Or a hungry hand right atop his crotch—

Nope. Nope nope nope. Blocking that one right the fuck out. The situation was serious. It was serious. It wasn’t the time for…for…

“The fuck did you just say to me?” hissed the guest.

“I don’t think I need to repeat myself,” Stede said, in his…

    In his Captain Voice.

Ed and Stede face a nasty guest at their inn, and while Stede takes control of the situation, Ed very quickly wishes Stede would do the same to him.

    Summary

It’s the summer of 1959, and classics professor Stede Bonnet is determined to become a new man. He’s made two monumental changes so far: he’s resigned his position at the University of Chicago, where he has taught for his entire career, and he’s left his wife Mary, to whom he has been married for nine years. Now he’s off to the only place in the United States where you can get a no-fault divorce: the deserts of Nevada. He’s checking in to a so-called Divorce Ranch just outside of Reno, where he’ll spend the requisite six weeks establishing residency. After that, it’s off to California to assume his new teaching position and his new life.

It's the summer of 1959. Ed Teach has been living in Reno since he was a teenager. He's a radio DJ, an artist, a handyman and a fixture of the community, particularly popular in the underground gay nightlife scene that is still recovering from the brutal vice raids of the McCarthy era.
