Keiko's mom had never liked Lee. Which, fair--he was American military, and she was a Japanese civilian. She hadn't approved of Kei going to Berkeley in the first place, so Lee could only imagine how she felt about Kei working with not one but two Americans, and since Billy was the one Kei married, Lee got to bear the full brunt of her disapproval for the two, maybe all three, of them. Usually he didn't mind.
But today Keiko's mom was going to like him a whole lot less when he explained why her oldest daughter was never coming home again.
