Summary
Jake held Sunghoon's gaze and allowed himself to study how dark his eyes were, the faint freckles gracing his nose and cheeks, the slight tan he'd developed after working under the sun all summer – even the way his school shirt no longer hung off his frame but instead hugged his torso and the swell of his biceps.
"Hello?" Sunghoon waved a hand in front of Jake's face, startling the shorter. "Earth to Jake?"
Jake's breath caught in his throat, his heartbeat more like a swarm of butterflies now.
Or, Jake realizes he's got feelings for his best friend.

Summary
Yeah, Sunghoon might not be the most serious or scholarly of students (he prefers to work smart, not hard in most scenarios), but Jay's stubborn reluctance to add anything of substance to their collaboration is seriously elevating his already burgeoning migraine.
"Are you really not gonna write anything?" Sunghoon has to ask before the stress gives him white hair – and not the edgy kind.
"You're already jotting everything down like the studious nerd," Jay replies, folding his arms and leaning into his seat. "So I'm all good."
"'Studious nerd'?" Sunghoon finally faces Jay, getting an eyeful of honey skin and dark, challenging eyes. He had no idea Jay had been watching him, but he isn't going to back down. "Wow. How original."
Or, Sunghoon pairs up with Jay for a group project and gets his world turned upside-down.

Summary
"For the record. I would've done this for less money."
Jay paused, half-turned. "And I would have paid more."
Heeseung folded his arms, bathrobe sliding treacherously low on one shoulder. It drew Jay's gaze for a fraction of a second, just long enough to count as his victory. "I'll do such a good job you will not want to let me go."
"I know you will. But I will let you go."

Summary
Christmastime last year, this street was bright and bustling. Jay remembers dragging Jake down to go shopping one evening, because his evenings were free back then. Hell, evenings were safe back then. There were lights, and people in the streets, and this sort of darkness felt like a distant nightmare.
If Jay weren’t too busy writing other headlines, he’d write this: THE DISTANT NIGHTMARE IS REAL, FOLKS! ROBBERS CHASE POOR, UNSUSPECTING JOURNALIST DOWN A ONCE-LIVELY STREET.
Or: having a superhero in the city, as it turns out, does not reduce the dangers of living there. But for someone as interested in said superhero as Jay, this may not be such a bad thing...

Summary
Growing up, Jay’s mother warned him about people. Mean people. Scary people. Incompetent people. People, she told him, were going to be very frustrating and obnoxious and contrary to deal with, and Jay needed to accept that as a fact of life in order to not go insane.
He wonders why she never warned him about the opposite: someone who got along so well with Jay that all he would ever want to do was spend time with them. He figures she didn’t want to get his hopes up with a statistical anomaly, because there’s only one Heeseung in the world.

Summary
Sunghoon knew a hopeless case when he saw one. He wasn’t stupid — he knew when there was nothing to be done, he knew when to give up and give in. It had never been in his nature to hold on to things that weren’t there.
But then Jongseong, who was in love with someone else, kissed him on the porch of his beach house, and suddenly he was hopeless, breathless, holding on to a dream that could never be. Waiting by his phone, by his door, by the shadow at Jongseong’s feet.

Summary
“Who did you kill?” he murmurs distractedly. “It wasn’t anyone I liked, was it?”
“How can you still joke around at a time like this?” Jay cries, throwing his hands into the air as he paces back and forth. His voice is raw, his face pale and splotchy. “This is the part where you either grab a shovel or turn me in.”
Heeseung stares at him, a bit wide-eyed, a bit dazed by the boy’s presence after months of nothing but radio silence. “I missed you,” he blurts.
Six months after disappearing from Heeseung's life without a trace, Jay comes knocking on his door to cash in a favor: someone is dead, and he needs help hiding the body. Heeseung agrees a bit too readily, because -- well, he's still in love.
