Summary
Tony is the first to admit that he's an absolute mess, the likes of which most healthcare professionals wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole, but in his defense, he's down an arm and a kid he saved the universe to hold again. With that in mind, he's rapidly coming to the conclusion that he either needs to chill on his caffeine intake, pain meds, or, more likely, both because said kid is standing in front of him, confused, possibly concussed from falling out of the goddamn sky, but alive, and Tony can feel his world crashing down around him.

Summary
Somewhere between six and fourteen years old, Peter learned to love Ben for everything Ben had been while still knowing that someday—a day that was supposed to be a long time from now—he’d lose him. He’d loved Ben while being aware that every moment he had with him could be the last, and was therefore sacred. Peter didn’t always cherish them the way he wishes he had now, but he’d still known. He’d still understood how irreplaceable Ben is.
Was.
This loss was never going to be as easy as sandpaper scraping over wood. For Ben, the grief Peter carries in his heart is a jagged rock, and time a gently flowing river.
Peter knows he will die long before its rough edges are worn smooth.

“You can’t keep doing this,” Tony says from where he's sitting beside the lab table, shaking his head at Peter as he watches him expertly clip a leaf so he can continue stitching up his side.
Peter shrugs, then winces when his head gives a particularly painful throb at the movement. “Why not? Grown just fine this far.”
(He doesn't mention that those born with willow cores rarely live beyond fifty. The wood is not bendy, and thus easily broken. But as the midwife reminded his mother, real strength lies in roots. And willow tree roots are very strong indeed.)
