“Remember how, when I started working here, I told you there was a coworker who talked a little differently than other people because he couldn’t hear? That was Henry,” Alex explained gently.
Henry watched the two of them carefully, obviously trying to keep up with the conversation, and not for the first time, Alex wished he had a better grasp at British Sign Language.
“OH!” Antonio exclaimed as he looked back at Henry. “He’s the man you’re learning the funny hands for!”

“What’s your name?” he asks Henry and then comes to stand in front of him, stopping Henry in his tracks.
“If I tell you, will you leave me alone to do my job?”
Alex purses his lips, looks up, and crosses his arms over his chest. Then he shakes his head. “No, but,” and he emphasises the ‘T’, “at the very least I can bee polite about it.”
Henry visibly cringes. “Oh, for the love of everything holy, don’t start with the bee puns. I can guarantee I’ve heard every single one in the history of ever and they are all awful.”
Alex hums. “That’s beecause you haven’t heard mine.”

Summary
The fall was so fast that Alex hadn’t even realized it happened until it was too late. He was utterly in love with Henry. Alex felt Henry in his soul, like he’d finally found his twin flame. Alex didn’t even think he believed in that before he met Henry, but suddenly it seemed inevitable that they’d find each other.
The breakup was devastating but amicable. Alex told himself that it was the short duration of their relationship — the fact that they were always so pressed for time and trying to make the most of it — that made it idyllic. It was a special time and he’d always cherish it, but surely there were others out there in this world of 8 billion people that could make him feel the way Henry did. Alex was determined to mend his broken heart and then set out to find them.

Inspired by "The Death of Peace of Mind" by Bad Omens, which was stuck in my head for about two weeks straight. I couldn't stop imagining an angsty exes-to-lovers fic featuring our beloved boys. And, several months of feverish writing sessions and obsessive editing later, here we are.

“Alex.” Henry swallows hard, unable to stop all the hair on his body from standing on end as he lays his eyes upon his ex for the first time in over six years.
He looks devastatingly beautiful, even more so than Henry remembers; his face has shed the softness of youth, revealing new angles, and instead of the untamed, overgrown curls of the past, his hair is shorter and carefully styled, falling perfectly over his forehead. He looks bigger – stronger maybe – than the skinny boy Henry knew, and he’s dressed in a well-tailored suit with fitted trousers; a far cry from the casual dress of their uni days.
