Vash may be human-ish. Human-adjacent. Just human enough to need stupid stuff like food. Vash might be human enough to wake up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache. Vash might just be human enough to sob for his mother, to allow himself to be coddled and babied and treated like some fragile little thing made from glass. Glass and soft, human bits. Vash might be human enough for all of that.
But not Nai. Nai is above eating and feeling sick and crying for his mother. Nai is nothing like a human!
Or: Baby Nai gets sick with a stomach bug and the terrifying thing is that he just *might* be human enough to feel a little scared about that.

Kunikuzushi has been through a lot. As such, he’s gotten it into his head that this means he can ignore his limits, that he won’t succumb to illness or exhaustion if he simply puts his mind to survival, that he doesn’t miss his mother and, in fact, would prefer that she keep away from him entirely, especially during moments of discomfort or pain.
Luckily, Kunikuzushi has managed to collect up a fair number of people who care to see him happy and healthy.
