    The words hung in the air, suffocating, heavy, and not really a question at all.

    Jake’s heart pounded in his chest, his nerves fraying with every second of silence that followed. He forced himself to stay calm, to mask the fear and dissociate from the traitorous excitement creeping up his spine, thorny and wrong. Heeseung’s touch was gentle, almost comforting, loving, but Jake knew better.

    Still, he nodded, once, his voice a barely audible exhale. “Yeah,” his head spun as he averted his eyes. “Yes, hyung.”
