They were still many days away when disaster struck and Merlin's mare went lame. They tried to push on, with one person walking, hoping she might improve. But to no avail.
"It's all right, Merlin can share with me," said Elyan, patting the back of his small stallion.
"Nah, he'll join me, right Merls?" said Gwaine with a wink.
"I'd be happy to share if you'd like, Merlin," offered Percival.
"Silence, all of you!" called Arthur. "Merlin will be coming with me."
This quelled the arguments. Everyone knew when Arthur used that tone of voice his word was final.
