Summary
Buck’s taking him to therapy, where he knows Eddie’s therapist’s name and Eddie’s entire history with him; Buck, who let himself into Eddie’s house with food from Eddie’s favorite coffee shop with coffee crafted perfectly for Eddie’s tastes; Buck, who apparently has a book on Eddie’s coffee table with so many dog-eared pages it’s like any interruption at Eddie’s house is worth putting it down.
Buck, who touches him with a devotion as palpable as all the little pieces of himself scattered throughout Eddie's home.
Eddie thinks he might have solved his own question, but he’s afraid to look at the answer too closely—because he’s fairly certain his best friend is in love with him, and Eddie can’t remember a single thing about him.
Or, the one where Eddie wakes up from the shooting only to think he was hurt in a certain 7.1 earthquake years prior and learns to appreciate the life he's created for himself since then.

Summary
Buck frowns. “You don’t remember?”
“Just the accident, and the last - day or so? It’s pretty typical to lose some time around an injury like this, even if we’re not usually that lucky. Honestly, I don’t mind forgetting this one,” Eddie says, half-smiling.
But - Buck can barely process the way Eddie’s joking around, still stuck on the first part of his sentence. “The - um. The last day or so?” he presses, trying to seem more casual than he feels - trying to pretend icy dread isn’t settling into the pit of his stomach.
or - the one where buck and eddie get together the night before a shift - and the next day, an accident erases eddie's memory of the last 24 hours.

Summary
Eddie wakes up on the couch at home. All the lights are off. His mouth feels gummy, spit dried on his chin, and there’s a headache pounding in his temples. He blinks a few times, trying to clear his head, scrubbing a hand over his face as he tries to reorient. From the sunlight coming in through the windows it must be sometime in the afternoon. Why was he asleep on the couch in the middle of the day like a child?
They –. The 118. The last call of their shift, it was –. He can see it in flashes, disjointed, sirens and smoke. Why can’t he remember?
*
After a difficult call things get confusing for Eddie - is he trying to tell himself something?

Summary
He’s tired of reading ‘I’m so sorry for your loss’ and ‘He will be missed’ and ‘He was a great man’. Because he wasn’t.
If there was one thing his father wasn’t, was a ‘great man’. Phillip Buckley was a pretentious asshole, a shitty father and a horrible person.
Buck didn’t miss him. He should feel bad about it. He was his father, the man who raised him, fed him, put him through school, and Buck couldn’t find it in him to miss him.His father didn’t care all the times Buck almost died, so why should Buck care about Phillip dying? He doesn’t think it’s fair.
(or, phillip buckley dies and buck doesn't know how to feel about it)

Summary
Eddie feels like his heart is going to beat out of his chest.
There’s a guy, in full turnout gear, hanging from a ladder truck. And it isn’t night time, it’s not raining– Buck is right next to him, breathing– but Eddie still feels like he’s right back to two years ago. Right back to seeing Buck lifelessly hanging from the ladder.
He’s going to throw up.
(or the body hanging from the ladder isn't buck, but eddie freaks out anyways)
