The days pass somewhat like this — they pore over the Post-it notes on the fridge, yet don’t come any closer to a fully formed song. Stu pores over the little tells in Murdoc’s words, yet doesn’t come any closer to a fully formed man.
(Before 2-D was Stu; before the band, a one-bedroom flat. The only thing Stu is sure about regarding Murdoc is that he smells of stale cigarettes.)

A moment's deliberation and Murdoc smacks the shell closed. It rings a hollow click as if the thing had given a tut, thoroughly displeased by the state of their surroundings.
Noodle hisses, a sharp inhale, at the face of 2D's effigy.
(Years after the band's last album, their last meeting, and 2D's untimely death, Murdoc tries to salvage Gorillaz from the waste that remains, crowding the shore of Plastic Beach.)
