Summary
With the chill of evening, his fever went down and left him… exhausted. Still, he had to move on. He had to reach his master at any cost. If Clarines had known the danger that waited in the west, they surely wouldn’t have sent a bunch of diplomats. Fancy nobles with colourful gowns and without hidden weapons, not one of them. After their entourage had spread thin on that mountain pass, everything had happened so fast.
Obi pressed his fingertips to the bridge of his nose to stop the images from coming, but still they did, vivid as always…
The first flash of light, reflected by a sharp metal blade … the way one diplomat at the front had looked back to them, surprise written all across his face along with a line of fresh, red sparkles … the way his horse had panicked and had thrown him off, right into the middle of the fight … the way his knife had shimmered with the light of the setting sun and something else, red and vibrant and intoxicating …
He sighed deeply, shaking his throbbing head, and opened his eyes again.
He had to move on.
