Summary
In 1720s London, Sylvain is startled to come across an old friend at a party, and even more startled to find that Felix has all but left his family to make a name for himself as a musician.
Reluctant to let him escape him again after many years of separation, Sylvain finds himself following Felix into London’s artistic scene, and rediscovering a side of himself he’d thought he’d never be able to express. But he is still the son of a marquess, and society has certain expectations of him.

Flayn looked up at the stars, the way the leaves of the trees in the courtyard seemed to dance around them. They looked black like this, their trunks lit by the orange of the lantern light, the upper edges of the branches brushed with pale moonlight. The strip of sky between the buildings seemed astonishingly bright. It left her feeling unexpectedly confessional.

He misses the beach. The real beach. The current one is mostly soil with a lacy veneer of nuclear ash, clammy and streaky and hilariously radioactive, which is a real bummer when he thinks about it too hard. But the twenty-five meter sea level rise that came when all the freshwater ice finished melting around the mid-century mark ate away at the shoreline, rolled in between the skyscrapers on a new tide, swallowed up all the people who couldn't afford to move anywhere else. Have you seen the rent rates lately?
And then John accidentally'd the entire nuclear stockpile of the planet Earth.
