Dabi made one promise to Hawks, one promise and the avian would leave his hero days behind for his mate. He was free to stay a villain, free to ruin his father, but he wouldn't kill Endeavor. In the heat of the moment, wrapped in his mate's arms, Touya made the promise.In return, Hawks would give up everything. His job, his status, the protection of the HPSC.
And Dabi meant it. Because Hawks made him want things he'd never wanted before. Things after revenge, a life after hatred.
Except, when he finally stood over his father's prone form, that hatred consumed him. And the he broke the only promise Hawks ever asked of him.
The story picks up two years later, after Hawks vanished leaving Dabi behind to realize what he's lost by giving in to his impulse for vengeance. He's been searching all this time for his wayward mate, bent on dragging him back. On demanding answers. On taking him by force if he has to.
Except, when he finally finds the avian, everything's different. And Hawks isn't alone...

Hawks pulls his wings in silently, squinting down at the shadowy form. He's about the right height, lean and almost scruffy. The hood makes it hard to tell. Hawks bides his time, watching and waiting until his gaze catches the flicker of a blue flame. He smirks into the darkness. Bingo.

It's been years since everything happened. Since Hawks killed Twice. Since Dabi burned him alive. A lot has changed, for everyone.
Dabi's rehab is moving along, but after a total relapse in the care of his Father, he's all out of options if he ever wants to see his freedom again. Hawks is his last hope, but the bird will only take him in as a favor to Endeavor.
There's no love lost between them, but somehow they need to learn to coexist, and maybe even heal.
