“Survive, and have hope,” Veritas tells him. “Maybe things will get better in the future.”
“Yeah? Hope like those damsels in distress in fairytales?” he scoffs. “Hope someone someday will come and rescue me from this hellhole? My knight in shining armor―my very own savior?”
“You need to have hope that a brighter future will come,” Veritas insists.
The boy stares at him with a smile on his face that doesn’t quite reach his eyes. “Will you be my savior then, doctor?”
