    Bookmarker's Notes

    He’s so grateful it’s not whiskey as the clear liquor burns down his throat. He pours himself another and tosses it back – always looking for ways to burn, to float, to soften the razor-sharp edges of his reality.
    “Hey,” Kiara says, looking over to him with a sweet smile. “I’m so glad you came.”
    And there it is – there she is. The thing that softens his reality more than anything else. Some of those words following him do fall away then – some of hers tied in their place.
    Maybe he’s not just somebody’s punching bag. Maybe he has good parts.
