Summary
It is funny, Sirius thinks, how a breakfast can so succinctly be a form of denial, mostly in that it is an entire rejection of every minute of history they’ve shared but too because Remus closed the door in his face when Sirius first knocked. That was two days ago, and now Sirius is sitting at the kitchen table, being plastered with serving after serving of buttered bread and eggs congealed with old swiss, all of it so rich he cannot so much as breathe without his stomach turning violently over.
Remus is still looking at him, bone-dry. Brutal in a blank sort of way, brutal in the way of unused parchment.
Sirius cannot meet his eyes. Sirius used to make a sport of meeting awkward Remus’s young eyes, plain milky brown with green at the edges, Sirius would crane and crouch to meet those eyes, and now he cannot manage it. It is a stomach rush, he’s sure, akin to cliff-jumping.
It might be why Remus smacks his cup down too hard on the tabletop, coffee sloshing over the edges. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” he says.

Summary
As a thirteen-year-old boy, you don’t tend to fling the word love around an awful lot, not with any degree of sincerity. But maybe you know it when you see it or something, because Peter’s sitting there watching the two of them and he’s not sure what else to call it, honestly. Oh, right, he thinks, and suddenly the way Sirius has always looked at Remus floods to mind, settles quietly, unravels itself, and it makes sense. Oh, right. That’s what it’s all about.
or:
Peter learns to notice things. To watch people. He notices, for example, Sirius falling in love with Remus for four years. And then maybe - maybe a little part of him has always been waiting for the day he'd have to watch Sirius throw it all away again, all this time.

Summary
"I said don't move," came a quiet voice, and then, from the half-fallen arch of a doorway, came a man. The man with the white skin, and the strange, grey slip of linen as a tunic, and bare feet, and ice-blue eyes watching Remus across the ruined courtyard. "You're hurt."
Remus is sent to the wild North, where the old mines at Silbermere have run dry, and all is still, and silent.

Summary
Now is the point when Remus is not alone. He started alone. He started sitting on the hills out past Greenhouse Six, the dew-damp hills with all the half-crushed and deeply sodden dandelions, just him and a spliff and the layer of low-hanging, early morning fog turning the sun into an apricot (all fuzz), and now he is not alone because Sirius is standing before him, short and lithe and incandescent, jaw clenched, an earring in the shape of a dagger cutting through the soft meat of his lobe.
“Here,” he says. He is thrusting a bottle of muggle coke at Remus: red label, brown fizz sloshing against the curves.
“This moment is fake,” Remus says.
“Shove over, Descartes,” Sirius says.
