Summary
It was just a thing of life, that you'd have to try and find your own somewhere else. More so a someone else. This place would be safer, more secure. The people were more secure, Alastair could trust them more. He could trust that these people wouldn't do things to hurt anyone, himself and themselves included. His current living situation didn't exactly guarantee the latter, the former was still out to the jury. So, Alastair would trust these relative strangers to have his best interest in mind. Or, at least, better than most.
OR
Alastair convinces himself that leaving home at 14 to live in the desert with two strangers is a good thing.
