And just like that, Glinda becomes interim leader of Oz in time for Mistlemas.
She's not immune to the irony of it all: during Oz's greatest celebratory season, all she wants to do is flounce upon her bed and curl up, wrapping herself up in thousand-count sheets, and mar her pretty face with tears. Who better to give Elphaba the show of abject mourning that she deserves than the woman responsible for her death?
So she cries, then cries some more—oblivious to the green envelope that slides itself underneath her bedroom door, waiting for her.

Summary
Galinda has been navigating silent social contracts all her life; she knows what's expected of her in order to survive. "I'm grateful to you, Madame. For saving me." Another breath. "For your faith in me, which we both know has never faltered."
The other woman smiles then, baring her teeth. The lie hangs between them in the air. "I always believed in you, Glinda. You know this. As do your parents... such upstanding folk, the Uplands. Always have been. It would be such a shame if anything were ever to happen to them. Do you understand?"
Their eyes meet once more.
"Yes," Galinda says again. The word is barely audible; she clears her throat. "Yes."

Ruth can scream. She can wail. She can effortlessly hit the kind of notes that Axl Rose has to warm up for, jumping from pitch to pitch with the kind of abandon that seems like precision. And she knows how to dial it back, following Patrick's lead with an obvious ease that startles Stevie. When their voices meld together, Ruth matching him beat for beat, note by note, Stevie can't help herself.
She catches Mutt's eye, tilting her head towards the vocalists, and bites back a grin when the two of them join in.
And the funny thing is: this shouldn't be so effortlessly easy. The four of them have never played together before.
Voting her into the band, though, is the easiest decision that Stevie's ever made.

Patrick's lips are twitching. David, though, is fixated on the chalkboard. "Since when do you have an Ides special?"
"Since today!"
OR: After Twyla learns that David loves the Ides of March, she organizes a little surprise for him with Patrick's help.
