Summary
Not fully believing what he’s seeing, Sanji lets out a startled cry of shock that’s echoed by the animal that’s now half in and half out of a crate of produce. Letting out a dismayed noise, it flails in surprise, ultimately falling to the floor with a harsh thump, landing on its back with its four limbs sprawled everywhere, its wings askew, and its tail drooping forward over its eyes.

(Sanji’s hands. Angsty and silly and cute and real.)
“Okay, that’s your side of the battleground, and this is mine. Don’t cross this line.” Sanji points. “This line.”
“This line?” Zoro rolls the marine to his side with his boot. Sanji nudges him back over, furiously miming.
“No, this line.”
“So if I do this –”
“That’s my side, yes.”
“And if I –”
“Still my fucking side.”
“That’s not fair! You have more fighting space than I do!”
“But I have the mast, and that’s like, at least two square fee – get OFF MY SIDE.”

Summary
The blood rushes through his ears and drowns out all other noise as he goes still. Intentionally, he reaches deep within himself, down to the very essence of what makes him the person he is, and twists it, knows it. It hurts; of course it does. But in the end, he opens his eyes again and he knows that he has to go on.
In this moment, the Archivist forces himself to become Jonathan Sims once more.

Bookmarker's Notes
There’s a soft knock on the door. Jon’s smile disappears in an instant. Martin and Sasha share a look.
The door opens to reveal Elias, holding a tiny, neatly wrapped gift, looking sheepishly into the room, and as soon as he takes his first step over the threshold, hundreds of plasticy clicks sound off as tape recorders all across the room turn on simultaneously. Martin looks around for whatever set them off, but he knows - oh, he knows, this is something else, something real, something dangerous. A shiver runs down his spine and he knows that Sasha and Tim feel it too, feel a hostile power seeping into the room, swirling all around them and filling it with fear.

Summary
Martin Blackwood is a reporter for The Observer newspaper. He’s a normal enough man, and he’d like to keep it that way. He doesn’t have much reason to suspect anything too far out of the ordinary when he heads down to University College Hospital on a hunch to visit the man who may or may not be dead.
The man’s name is Jonathan Sims: a failed academic by all accounts, though what he’d been doing before the explosion that threw him into a six month coma is at the mercy of baseless public speculation. Now he’s lying in an empty ward with no heartbeat, dreaming.
It seems like enough to fill a slow news day.
A Victorian AU. Herein lies artistic licence, ghosts, and the slowest burn you ever did see.

A flicker of a frown passes over Jon’s face like a cloud before the sun, and he curls his hand around Martin’s wrist, head tilting into his touch. Two of his fingers press into the thin skin of Martin’s inner arm. “You’re not - Martin. Are you,” Martin can feel Jon waiting for a pulse that will never come. “You’re already dead, aren’t you?”
