Buck’s stomach drops through the floor, and Eddie shifts, sitting next to him on the couch.
“Uh,” Buck says, very eloquently, and Eddie reaches for the phone. Buck hands it over and Eddie taps the speaker icon.
“You should have seen him, Tommy,” Eddie says, and his eyes are on Buck’s, but he’s half-grinning.

“Tommy?” he says his name like a plea.
“Shh,” he gets in return, that thumb pressing firmly over his lips. “You’ll do it for me, won’t you? Just this once?”
Buck shivers at the implications in his words, pretending to consider it. Tommy watches him all the while, silent and unmoving. It isn’t until he feels a new touch, warm even through the blankets covering him as fingers brush over his ankle. The hand squeezes lightly, once, twice, then a third time. It’s all he needs to stir him out of his silent stillness, and he nods slowly all while holding Tommy’s gaze.
“Need you to say it for us,” Tommy reminds him.
He closes his eyes, his face growing hot as he speaks in a trembling voice.
“I’ll do it.”
