“Why the hell did I get a cat?” John asks, more to himself than for Luke to answer. His own voice is almost drowned out by the satisfied noise seemingly ripped out of Luke’s throat, rippling through John’s chest, when John’s blunt nails start massaging his scalp like Luke had asked him to. “You’re basically the same thing.”
“Because now you get me and a cat for when I’m not around.”
John wishes it wasn’t as compelling of an argument as it actually is.
OR,
The one where they are dating, John meets Ellen and Jim and they adopt a cat. Just not in that order.

“You doubting me, or whatever this is.” Nico scrubs a hand down his face before blinking up at Jack, eyebrows furrowed together and lips pressed into a thin line. Jack towers over him like this. He doesn’t want to say there’s power in it, but something does feel different. Maybe he has some kind of leverage from up here. He sure as hell is going to need it. “You either want to be here or you don’t, man, but you can’t just give up on the team three games in.”
“How the hell am I giving up on the team?” Jack snaps. “I am fucking — How many points have you had, Neeks? ‘Cause last I checked, I was the only one making something happen.”

If Dylan is surprised by it, he doesn’t show it, his face carefully neutral.
He makes himself blink at Jack once, twice, three times before the corners of his lips are suddenly tugging upwards.
“You want to bring Hischier,” Dylan says slowly, not quite worded like a question but sounding like one anyway. “As your plus one.”
”Yes?” Jack frowns, “He’s, like. He thinks you’re really cool and he loves weddings and I thought — I don’t know. Who else would I bring?”

Summary
Nico sits on his bed and grabs his phone for the first time in a few hours. “You don’t even have a significant other,” he comments.
“Apparently I do now,” Jack mumbles loud enough for Nico to hear.
His head snaps up. He didn’t know Jack was seeing anyone. “Who?”
“I told Quinn that I was thinking about bringing you,” Jack tells him. Nico opens his mouth to say something but Jack continues talking. “Please do this one thing for me. It’s just two weeks of pretending to be my boyfriend. I owe you one if you do this to me. Pretty please, Nico?”
What can he say to that? No? The way Jack is practically pleading with him. He sounds desperate for Nico to do this for him. Jack is his best friend. He’s in love with Jack, which means that Nico could never say no to him.
OR
Jack makes a proposal for Nico to be his boyfriend for two weeks after the season ends and Nico cannot say no to Jack
