All the while, sticky, humid days slowly turned to crisper, apple-gold evenings. Trees became the colour of fire, like a warning. Li Ming started taking one of Heart's sweaters with him to the restaurant, to wear home over his own sweater on the bus. Heart got back his first assignment in Mechanical Lab with full marks, and Li Ming kissed him as a reward, stuck it to their refrigerator with the cactus shaped magnets that came with their taco delivery indulgences, the only place local enough that could provide any kind of spice close to what they were used to. He posted a photo of it to social media for everyone back home to see with the caption 'my boyfriend is so smart'. Wen commented with a thumbs up and Uncle Jim with a well done despite the strange hour it currently was in Pattaya. Li Ming stared down at his phone, guilty over it. They'd kept in touch over LINE but he hadn't seen or heard either of them since taking Heart's hand and walking into security at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
And then, fingers, tapping gentle on the side of his jaw. Heart's face tilted to one side, his big eyes and hands asking a question. "News from home?"
