Summary
Dr. Morozov rolls his eyes playfully. “You actually had one I liked for once, Fedyor.”
“Highest of praises!” Dr. Kaminsky throws one hand over his heart. “We’ll have to set it aside to tempt you into lingering long enough to finish it. Maybe you’ll actually stay for cake! Wouldn’t that be a scandal!” He throws his head back and laughs before taking a drink from his flute.
“Indeed! Perhaps I will.” Dr. Morozov brings his wine to his lips, and Alina catches his darting glance at her as he smiles into the glass. “Perhaps I will.”
______________TL;DR: Alina is the sole graduate student invited to the faculty Christmas party, and what better gift to receive than the chance to bone your otherwise off-limits crush?

Summary
There’s only one rule for traveling through the expansive forest of the Fold: stay on the path. But Alina had never been very good at following the rules.
After running off to aid a wounded traveler, Alina finds herself hopelessly lost and endlessly trailed by a darkness that some call Darkling, others call the Starless God, but all know as the Beast of the Wood. He cannot leave the borders of the Fold, but once Alina tries to return to the road, she quickly learns that neither can she.
Intent on overcoming all obstacles to her return, Alina begins her desperate search for a way home. Her only weapon seems to be the light that’s awakened under her skin–a power that the Starless God will stop at nothing to claim.
As his horrors beset her from all sides, Alina must keep the hope that’s gotten her so far, but the Beast is certain that once he breaks her, she’ll have to accept the truth. There is only his way. There is only the forest. There is only surrender.

Summary
“I was taught it was a dying language. It sounds very alive, hearing you speak.”
Her expression cracked like the nearby marble as she barked out a brittle laugh. “Oh, it is certainly dying. Few remain to truly speak it with, and language is easy to forget without practice.”
“Is that why you come here?” he asked. “So you don’t forget?”
The white-haired woman studied him, and he was once again confronted with the utter agelessness of her features. The eyes that looked at him as if he were something new, yet had seen such as him countless times.
“Yes, Father,” she finally said. “So we don’t forget.”
__________TL;DR: Alina visits Mal’s grave every year to mourn, and the cemetery’s priest gets more than he bargained for when he learns Old Ravkan to eavesdrop on a Saint.
