Summary
One war will always bring about another, and this war is no different. It just so happens that for the Captain of the Button House army base, this comes in the form of his new lieutenant. A war, he is quickly coming to realise, that perhaps cannot be won.
I am aware that I am beginning to ramble and repeat myself, and so I will try to be concise from hereon in.
You are still sitting by the lake as I look on from the window. There is something very wrong with the world for the distance between us to mean that we are safe, at least for now.

The Captain is forced to confront his feelings about Havers after his old diary is discovered. He relives the past and lets it intertwine with the present as he finally learns to embrace himself, realising his story didn’t end where he thought it did. Nor did his Lieutenant’s.
