Summary
She used to think of Hubert as a static thing. A child’s logic: he was always with her, so he always would be. But she’s realized that Hubert can change like anyone else. Why would he choose to stay in her shadow forever? Why would he want the tedium and difficulty of loving her, when he could cut himself free?

Summary
Control is a thing that Edelgard has had to rip back from the world, one piece at a time and with agonizing patience. Her bones cannot forget all that was taken from her, and the Crest that failed to destroy her has imbued her with a slippery film of fate. Her path is immutable, which is why she sends Ferdinand von Aegir to the worst and tiniest castle at the edge of Aegir territory after the fall of Garreg Mach. Unwilling to waste her precious time with Ferdinand's stubbornness and endless questions, Edelgard charges Hubert with bringing him supplies and bittersweet doses of companionship--until they get too close, leaving her curious and jealous in equal parts.
Edelgard's control of her life and her Two Jewels might have continued to be absolute unto death if she never blasphemed the Goddess while bedding Ferdinand under the Blue Sea Star, opening them all up to the weirder options fate has to offer.
