Erômenos (ἐρώμενος) - One who is desired, Archaic
In times before the invaders, it was customary for an older male partner, known as an erastes to take a younger man as his lover, receiving the adoration and trust of his eromenos in exchange for educating and providing social opportunities to the boy or young man. The practice fell out of favor, but a large body of poetry, artwork, and literature depicting this arrangement remains.

“My queen,” Dite said. He took the hand that had written the command for his return and kissed the knuckles gratefully. “I cannot express how wonderful it is to see you again.”
“You could try,” the king said.
“My words would be treason,” Dite said. “And foolish to utter beside my king.”
“Shame.” Eugenides rested his hand on Dite’s shoulder. “They could be fine verses indeed if you dared.” -

Summary
Erondites’s combination of two literary cultures launched him into the poetic stratosphere shortly after he arrived in Ferria. Ferrian love poetry had been ruled by the domina: a married woman or sex worker (sometimes the same woman, depending on how recently she spurned the poet in favor of another). She accepted or rejected the poet’s love at a whim, driving him mad to the point of near death, goddess and whore both. Poets played with the tension of wanting to give themselves wholly to someone whom they could not trust to keep their hearts safe.
Erondites came from a different literary background, where the ideals of courtly love reigned supreme. These romances were always set in a distant, mythical past, about famous, long-dead and ever-beautiful kings, queens, and knights. Ephestalian literature lacked the first-person, direct longing that tortured the Ferrian poets.
Erondites’s innovation derives from bringing both of these together. His mistress, named “Pacia” for the Ferrian goddess of peace, is not a cruel, married woman. She is the courtly queen come to life, and Erondites the knight who yearns for her from afar.A selection of Eronditean poetry, accompanied by a commentary

Summary
In any other case, she would have thought she was mistaken, would have thought that she was dreaming. But Jake has told her about seeing him at the counter for breakfast, and Ornette has told her about his alias on her registry, and when she says his name, he jolts back like he’s about to make a run for it.
(“I know he’s in a lot of trouble, he’s trying to hide, but— he doesn’t need to hide from us,” Jake had said, slumped over on her armchair. “He should know that, right?”
Moxie had told him that she was surprised he expected Snicket to do anything else.)
Lemony Snicket is on the lam with nowhere else to turn— so, of course, he heads to Stain'd-by-the-Sea.
