Summary
And maybe it’s the fact that Tyler is open and non-complicated and so unashamed that it makes Eddie feel like he doesn’t have to be either. Or maybe it’s just that Eddie’s so fucking sick of hiding, of letting people see him for who he’s not, of playing this suffocating role that he’s feeling a little impulsive. Either way, Eddie opens his mouth and what comes out is—
“I do, actually.”
Tyler raises a singular eyebrow at him.
“Swing for the same team, I mean.” He blows out a slow, calming breath, making eye contact with absolutely nobody, and then announces at large, “I’m gay.”

Then, he swallows thickly, turning to face Eddie with the single most terrified look on his face. He hadn’t seen this since the tsunami, the day Eddie saw him with Christopher’s glasses slung around his neck, because Buck knew telling him would kill Eddie – quickly or eventually, it would’ve.
But his son is safe. Everyone is safe. They’re on dry land, in a house that pretty much belongs to them rather than just him, and Buck’s looking at him like that.
He says, “I don’t think he was my first, either. Not in the way that matters.”

Because that’s what he kept telling himself: nobody is ever gonna want you enough to keep you.
But Eddie had kept him. He’s keeping him, still, he just has to go.
Eddie is moving to Texas. Buck finally figures out what he wants.

“Are we going to talk about it, then?” Hen says, her voice amused.
Eddie turns the page of his book. “Talk about what?” he asks, his words a deliberate sort of quiet, as if he’s worried about waking Buck up. And God, if that doesn’t make the ache around Buck’s heart pulse.
“The 6’5 giant using your lap as a pillow?”
Okay, great. Now Buck is not only taking advantage of his best friend, but he’s doing it while eavesdropping on a conversation about him that they all think he’s too asleep to hear.
in which buck pretends to be asleep and overhears something he shouldn't.
