There is a dragon in a nearby cave who is said to hoard knowledge instead of jewels, to thrive on the thrill of learning rather than that of the hunt, to believe that humans—at their core—are more than just food to be eaten. The village by that cave reveres this dragon, even though they’ve never seen them. Isn’t that even more of a reason to worship them? For the fact that they seem to be so completely disinterested in their people? This little village had attempted to sacrifice someone to their dragon protector once, and the sacrifice was promptly returned with a note saying, “Please do not do this.” They do not fear their dragon, for they have heard nothing about him to fear; no, they respect him, for the dragon respects them in return.
On a completely coincidental and unrelated note, there is also a scholar, who seems to only visit the village once in a blue moon and has been doing so for as long as any of them can remember.
Aventurine wants to fuck him so badly.

They'll meet again over a decade later, with Kakavasha as a follower of the Hunt and galaxy-wide criminal, and Veritas as the man appointed by the IPC to catch him. But that might have not been Veritas' true intentions.

Jade was silent on the other line for a few moments. “You’ll have to be a bit more specific. Which doctor are you talking about?”
Aventurine paused. “Uh… who else? You know, Ratio?”
“Who is ‘Ratio’ supposed to be, exactly?”
The toothbrush clattered as it fell into the sink, slipping entirely from Aventurine’s grasp.
That was when he knew something was wrong.

The man he’s sharing a bath with smiles at his lamentation, throughly amused by his commentary. Aventurine leans back against the bathtub, the tips of his hair getting wet. “Professor, the bath salt is almost past its efficient period. Might I ask what type you wish to use next?”
He props up one of his legs, stretching the other now covered with rose petals, to rub his foot along the side of Ratio’s chest, down to his waist and then swiftly up and down his thigh.
“Not bad,” Ratio says, chuckling. “You brought up a question worthy of thinking about.”
“Hm? Need further incentive, Professor?” Aventurine teases. “I can be plenty stimulating.”
