“Fancy seeing you here,” the man breathed when he noticed Death standing before him, a smile blooming on his lips. “What are you doing in a place like this?”
“Working,” he simply said, crouching to meet the man’s gaze. “I suppose whatever your job here was it didn’t really go to plan, huh?”
“Understatement of the fuckin’ century, mate,” the man chuckled breathlessly. His eyes were half-lidded like he was desperately trying to stay in the waking world. “But I suppose you could say that.”
Did this man mistake him for someone else? Why is he treating Death, of all things, like an old friend he hasn’t seen in a while?
“I know who you are, don’t worry,” he finally managed, the smile on his lips fading to a more melancholy shade. “How long do I have left, Mr. Grim Reaper?”
